Many heat-resistant gloves claim to withstand high temperatures without any evidence to back this up. These have been independently tested by TÜV and certified in accordance with EN 407:2020, the European standard for heat-protective gloves. The test confirms protection against contact heat of at least 350 °C. This is not an empty promise, but a certified result.

Why we quote 350 °C and not some made-up figure

In this sector, you’ll come across claims of 500 or even 800 °C, almost always without any standard or certification body to back them up. A higher level of certification would have been achievable for us, but that would have involved a process with stricter and more frequent production checks. Those costs would ultimately be passed on in the retail price. We opted for full, independent TÜV certification and kept the price fair. That way, you’re paying for the quality of the glove, not for the process involved.

Designed to hold things in place, not just to move them

Many heat-resistant gloves are designed for moving things over short distances: grabbing them and putting them down quickly. But you can’t move a heat deflector in a second, and you can’t lift a cast-iron grill with your fingertips. We’ve tested these gloves alongside others, and you can hold hot grates, cast iron and heat deflectors for noticeably longer with them. That means working calmly rather than rushing: placing the deflector down carefully rather than dropping it, and tilting the grate without having to let go halfway through.

Three layers between your hand and the heat

The outer layer, made of sturdy split leather, is heat-resistant, hard-wearing and provides grip on slippery and hot surfaces. Behind this lies the core: two layers of aluminium with a layer of TPU in between. Aluminium reflects the heat back rather than conducting it, and the TPU layer acts as an extra buffer. Inside, an insulated cotton lining ensures comfort and a final layer of protection. It is precisely this combination that makes it possible to hold the heat deflector for long periods: during ‘low and slow’ sessions on the kamado, you can lift a heat deflector with confidence.

41 cm of protection, reaching down to your forearm

Whereas many oven gloves stop at the wrist, these go further. At 41 cm, they also protect your wrists and forearms from heat and sparks. Just what you need when working over open coals, deep inside a hot kamado or at the back of the oven.

Being honest about signs of wear and tear

With intensive use over an open flame, the split leather on the outside may darken or char slightly over time. This is to be expected with leather exposed to high temperatures and is not a manufacturing fault: the aluminium heat-resistant layer with the TPU underneath continues to function as normal and the protection remains intact. Do keep them away from direct contact with open flames, though, as this will ensure they last the longest.
